Third Degree — Shinpiden (神秘伝)

• Meaning: “Mystery teaching” or “spiritual transmission.”

• Focus: Master-level understanding, spiritual development, and in some lineages the Master symbol.

• Experience: Often includes a powerful Attunement.

• Emphasis: Personal mastery and deepened spiritual practice.

Some Western lineages split the Master level into two parts:

• Level 3A — Reiki Master Practitioner You receive the Master symbol and advanced training but do not learn to attune others.

• Level 3B — Reiki Master Teacher You learn how to give Attunements/placements and teach all levels.

This split was introduced to make the teaching path more gradual and accessible.

Reiki Level 3 – Shinpiden: Master Practitioner & Teacher Training

Reiki Level 3 brings practitioners into the deepest layer of the Usui system, uniting advanced energetic practice with the skills required to guide and attune others. This combined Master Practitioner and Teacher qualification is designed for those who feel called to embody Reiki as a lifelong path, expanding both personal mastery and the ability to teach with clarity, integrity, and confidence.

What this level represents

Level 3 marks a shift from practising Reiki to living Reiki. Students receive the Master Attunement and learn to work with the Master symbol, developing a refined sensitivity to energy, intuition, and spiritual awareness. The focus moves beyond techniques into presence, alignment, and the ability to hold space for deep transformation in others.

What students learn

• The Master symbol and its applications in advanced treatments

• Techniques for strengthening intuition, energetic perception, and spiritual connection

• How to structure and deliver Level 1 and Level 2 courses

• How to give Attunements/placements with confidence and accuracy

• Approaches to mentoring students and supporting their development

• Ethical, professional, and practical considerations for teaching Reiki

• Advanced treatment methods for personal practice and client work

What students experience

The training includes guided practice, Attunement work, supervised teaching exercises, and opportunities to refine personal energy management. Students deepen their understanding of Reiki’s philosophy, lineage, and spiritual foundations, developing the confidence to teach from experience rather than memorised technique.

What graduates can do

By the end of this level, practitioners are able to:

• Use the Master symbol in treatments and self‑practice

• Offer advanced Reiki sessions with greater depth and clarity

• Teach Reiki Levels 1 and 2

• Give Attunements/placements to students

• Build their own Reiki courses, workshops, or healing practice

• Serve as mentors and guides within the Reiki community

This combined Master Practitioner and Teacher training is suited to those who feel ready to step into a leadership role within Reiki, deepen their spiritual practice, and share the system with authenticity and respect for its lineage.
